I love the spools and ribbon and rick rack, etc. My parents worked in a textile (cotton) mill and I remember seeing spools like this. Thanks for including me in this wonderful giveaway.

I think Chelsea should pick me because I really wanted to buy some spools and they were gone before I could....so sad me...winning a spool with trims would make me very happy!

Dearest Chelsea please hear my plea,
A trim filled spool would be perfect for me!
I haven't got many ribbons and bows,
so your affirmative answer would solve all of my woes.
I know you have many people to choose from,
but if you pick me I'd be grateful in perpetuum!

Thanksgiving is Looking Good!

Thanks to all of my wonderful readers, I will now be able to have Thanksgiving at my house! Remember all the spools you saw on my dining room table?

Spools in the Dining Room

Well, early this morning it looked like this…

Early this AM

And as of now, it looks like this…

Almost there

I think I can add some china to the table now! Yes, it’s true we are almost sold out of the spools. I caught Brigette sneaking her little stash out to the car because she was afraid I would sell them (actually I did sell one).

Now here’s the good news. Since you seem to like the smaller spools, I’ve ordered a few more. They take several weeks to get here so be patient. I’ll let you know when they arrive.

If you want to test your comments to see if they are coming in as [noreply-comment@blogger.com] leave a comment on this post. If I don’t respond you’ll know you need to update your blogger account with your email.

Now here's the best news. In a few days I've be having a giveaway. Guess what it might be? Have a great day everyone!

Hugs,

Anne

Have you heard about this?

Iraqi Bundles of Love...

It’s a great thing when one person can make a difference. Art La Famme is out to change a bit of the world. He’s the brain child of a project called Iraqi Bundles of Love, and after reading about it on his wife’s blog, I decided to jump in and contribute a “box” of goodies too.

Read about it here from Kristin La Famme and think about joining in. Just link over to Art’s blog, leave a comment and he’ll email you the address. Iraqi Bundles of Love is a good thing! These bundles will be distributed to women in Iraq who need the basics to sew clothing, quilts and things to make a living. Imagine a woman in Iraq opening a bundle…someone who loves to sew, just like us.

Here’s the start of my bundle. I need to add some yardage for things like dresses and shirts.

Package

Tomorrow we’ll pack as much as we can in an $11.95 flat rate box and it will off to join the other bundles! If you decide to join me be sure and tell others about your bundle on your blog. Let’s spread the word and send Art bundles of love!

Speaking of bundles of love, here’s another one found in the Bunny Hill studio today. She’s sleeping in her “drawer” on top of my desk. Chelsea made me promise to wrap the bundle in her Chelsea Manor fabric!

Chelsea dreaming dreams

And FYI…

The spools are listed on our web site. Just go to www.bunnyhilldesigns.com and click on Notions & Gifts. You’ll find them under Gifts.

Vintage Spools

And just one more thing but it’s important…if you haven’t entered your email in your blogger account, your comments come in as “[noreply-comment@blogger.com]. I can’t answer you back! I try to respond to as many of you as I can. Especially when you ask a question. So make sure you’ve entered your email and I can answer you. :>)

Have a great rest of the week everyone!

Sewing with the French General

No posts for almost a week?  I can’t help it!  I’ve been sewing with the general.  The French General, Kaari Meng!  No, she wasn’t really here, but her fabric was.

French General Book

Kaari, do you realize how popular you are?  You with this gorgeous Moda fabric line called “Rouenneries”? The name is so French, and this wonderful fabric has been so much fun to design with!

 French General Fabrics

I’ve never designed a block of the month that used one fabric line exclusively.  Now I have!  Kaari’s fabric is the only line in my newest block of the month.  And the pile of fabric that you’ve seen all week…

Studio Mess

…has finally turned into a quilt!  I’ve designed and prepared the entire quilt using the spray starch method of appliqué.  I can see what each block will look like before it’s appliquéd in place.

I’m writing the pattern, refining the drawings, and then block by block it will leave for Bend, Oregon where my friend Anne will do her magic and complete the appliqué and embellishing.

 Embellishment closeup

You know how I love to embellish!  Velvet ribbon winding up the stem of this design, and all those little points she gets to turn under.   Anne will love me for sure! If you don’t hear from her for awhile you’ll know why!

I’ll finally get a chance to list the vintage spools this week, and the rick rack is back in stock now!   Think of me in front of this computer, all week long.

Have a great day everyone!  Here at Bunny Hill we’ll be busy, but we always have fun! Another block of the month is almost done!

Hugs,

Anne

Brigette Made Me Do it!

It’s Brigette’s fault.  Completely her fault.  She made me buy all of these vintage bobbins.  Insisted!   And now my dining room table looks like this!

Spools in the Dining Room

Have you ever seen such a stash?  My table is filled with vintage bobbins!

Spool Collection

All types and sizes…

Hammered Spool

Row after row!

Spool Row

On and on it goes…

Waiting for prices

And as soon as I finish up with the mess project below…

Studio Mess

I’ll be listing these on my web site to sell…

Then you can have a display like mine in the photo below!  You’ll find this collection in my studio and I love it.  I wrapped all my vintage trims around these bobbins.

Group of Vintage Bobbins

And grouped them in a pink enamelware tray!

Bobbin Group

Or if you buy enough you can have a basket full!

Basket of Spools

Bow: Courtesy of French General Tape Measure!

I have to sell these before Thanksgiving or we’ll be joining Brigette for Thanksgiving dinner.

You can thank Brigette for this find.  She’s the shopper extraordinaire!  To quote her “I’m just doing my job”.  I’ll let you know when we have them listed.

These are getting harder and harder to find (that’s what I told my husband when he saw the boxes arrive)!  He had no idea what they were.

Have a great week everyone!  We’ll be working on that mess project you saw above.  Appliqué believe it or not!

Hugs,

Anne

One Apron Judging is Enough For Me

First, before I start this post, I have to say I loved your comments on my last post!   I think I have something that each of you collect right here in my house.  I know that’s what my husband would tell you.  Thank you all for sharing!  I’m feeling much more normal right now.

Regarding the judging of Pat Sloan’s apron contest, no more judging!  I can’t take it.  The pressure is just too much.  I mean, why can’t I pick them all?  Every single one who entered the contest deserves a prize.  Soooo many cute aprons!  Never ask me to be a judge again!  Had to call in some judging help from Anne over at Cottons ‘n Wool

Vintage Pillowcase Apron

Now in case you’ve been over to Pat’s blog, you might be a little confused.  This is the apron I picked as the winner, not the one on her blog.  Not that I don’t love that one too, and it’s a good thing they were both made by Jodi over at Simply This, Than and The Other!  But this one…this one is special.  Have you ever seen anything so cute?

I can appreciate “cute” because right now my studio is such a mess.   I’m surround in fabric, papers, pencils, glue and other things I can’t find.  And it’s getting worse every day!

Studio Mess

So Jodi, here’s to your darling apron, looking so pretty hanging on that cabinet door!  I needed something cute and pretty to look at.  Thanks for providing it.

And the rest of you who entered, I loved all your aprons.   Especially the one with the two little girls, the cute pockets, the four pairs of legs,  the Christmas Fabrics, the flip flops, the…you get the picture right?

Hugs,

A Passion for Door Knobs

A passion for door knobs.  Not just any door knob, how silly would that be?  My passion is for glass door knobs.  Old ones, of the vintage kind.

It started while rummaging through an antique store.  There it was, just one.   The light, reflecting off the glass, caught my eye.  I fell in love with a door knob!  Before I left that store I had a collection of two!

Two do not make a collection

I brought them home, my collection of two.  And what are you going to do with those, my hubby asks?

Well this week, several years later, I can answer him.   I’ve been shopping on eBay!  I’m going to have a collection.  A real collection!  One day  I will think of something very creative.  They will be used to hang curtains,  towels, or something that will make you think I’m very smart…

But for now, they will reside in this glass jar…

Knob JarWith one knob placed just outside the jar …

Closeup 2

…and maybe a bit of the old hardware close by…

Hardware

I’ve created a vignette!

Crystal Beauties

Can you see why I love them?

What’s your passion? What do you collect that I might need want to collect?

 Kiss, Kiss

Anyone out there collect lambs?  I do!

Don’t forget to enter Pat Sloan’s apron contest.  I’ll be the judge on Sunday!  Post that apron now! You could be the lucky winner!!!

It’s Basket Day!

It’s basket day at Bunny Hill and we’re going on a picnic! Are you ready?  It’s a cupcake picnic!  Here, go ahead and have one!  Help yourself!

Cupcake tree

The end result

If you get our newsletter you’ll have the recipe link for these cupcakes by Brigette.   If not, you can find it here!

I am in love with cupcakes and when it came to choosing something to put in the August basket, cupcakes were my first choice.  Of course we can’t have a picnic without a bug.   I love ladybugs too!

Here’s the appliqué version!

Block Eight

And, if you’re working on the redwork  you’re in for a treat!  I’ll show you a peek of the finished quilt!

Redwork Closeup

Just look at this cutie…

Finished Redwork Sneak Peek

…and then look at the quilting!

Redwork Quilting

And here’s another little surprise!  1” rick rack inserted into the binding of the appliqué quilt!  Can you see it in the picture below?   Applique Quilt sneak peek

The rick rack is a pretty peachy/rose color and it adds the finishing touch.  It’s easy to do and you can buy it here (requires  5   1/2 yd).   I’ll give you the directions for inserting the rick rack soon.  So easy!

A Tisket A Tasket Rick Rack

No, I didn’t forget all you woolies out there.  Just click on over to Cottons n’ Wool for the wool version of block eight!  It’s 100 degrees and Anne’s making wool cupcakes.

Have a great cupcake month!
